Bacchanalia will be Richard Caring’s new Mayfair restaurant on Mount Street | Recent news

We’ve been wondering for some time exactly what restaurateur Richard Caring’s plans were for the huge corner restaurant at the top of Berkeley Square, where the former Porsche showroom used to be. Now, in an interview with The Sunday TimesCaring has provided more details on what to expect.
First there is the name – Bacchanalia – it will be a Greek and Italian restaurant. It certainly looks like it’ll be just as jaw-dropping as Caring’s other more recent openings, like Sexy Fish and The Ivy Asia. Artist Damien Hirst, who worked with Caring on Sexy Fish and The Brasserie of Light, is making four giant works of art for the restaurant, including one depicting “winged lovers kissing on a unicorn.” In addition to Hirst’s art, there will also be ancient statues and Sistine Chapel-style frescoes on the ceiling – subtle and uncluttered, it’s not. Designer Martin Brudnizki, who has also worked on many Caprice Holdings restaurants, is in charge of the design.
Along with what was in the Times article, Hot Dinners learned that there would be a members-only section, in addition to the restaurant and a private dining room. The Midas Bar will feature a full rock crystal bar and there will also be a terrace for al fresco dining and drinking. And as for the food – a sample menu suggests it will be seafood-focused with plenty of oysters and caviar on offer as well as dishes like pan-fried foie gras with rhubarb and fillet of St. Stone with porcini mushrooms in a chicken butter sauce.
