Buck Hill Ski Racing Team

We are looking for a collaborative leader with the vision to help lead the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team as Co-Program Director with the skills, passion and love for skiing to carry on the legacy of the Buck Hill ski racing team.

Start date: Summer 2022
Work timetable: Varied work and weekends

Physical requirements

  • Occasional extended and irregular hours during the winter season and off-site locations
  • Standing, bending and kneeling frequently in bad weather
  • Experience working with USSS national contacts, regionally, parents and athletes.
  • Occasionally lift more than 50 pounds
  • Ability to travel to multiple training and meeting locations

Skill and experience required

  • Must have strong leadership, collaboration and organizational skills
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills and the ability to work directly with colleagues, parents and athletes
  • Must be able to work successfully in groups with the team and within the station.
  • Ability to foster business relationships and work independently with external organizations
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading successful competitive alpine programs and age groups
  • Experience working and administering budgets and financial planning
  • Preferred bachelor’s degree
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft and Google application and tool suites
  • USSS Coaches and Official Certifications Required
  • USSS Coaches License background check or foreign equivalent.
  • Valid passport and driver’s license

About the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team

The Buck Hill Ski Racing Team is strong, with a solid base of athletes from U10 to FIS, and membership growth over the past three years. The Buck Hill Ski Racing Team has a rich, ongoing history of developing top athletes at the national level and athletes who continue to compete successfully at the college, national and international levels.

The Buck Hill Ski Racing Team is owned and operated by Buck Hill Inc. and is supported by a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (Club) which was formed as an entity to provide a financial support for athletes and training infrastructure to help ensure the best support for the success of the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team.

In 2008, the US Ski & Snowboard Association recognized the Buck Hill ski racing team as the ski racing team of the year and in 2014 they received the first Gold Club certification in the Central Division and continues to hold this prestigious recognition.

The Program Co-Director shares responsibilities for the management and day-to-day operations of the Buck Hill Ski Racing Team and is employed by Buck Hill, Inc. The Hill provides a top-level training venue, recently investing in new new snowmaking equipment. and lighting to support ongoing team training.

The Hill is a destination in the vibrant community of Minneapolis/St. Paul offering four seasons, culture, restaurants, top schools, surrounded by lakes and a passion for snow sports. This twelve-month salaried position will report directly to Buck Hill’s Chief Operating Officer, and will work and collaborate with other directors within the organization.

Summary of tasks:

  • In conjunction with Team Principals, manage members of the Buck Hill Ski Racing team to support the creation of a strong culture within the team, families and coaching staff.
  • Work with Buck Hill Inc. management to develop and manage an annual budget and non-divisional club support for races and championships and team equipment needs
  • Develop strong cross-departmental communications with Operations, Racing, Ticketing and Snowsports departments. Works effectively with other managers
  • Provides weekly updates and communications to members. Effectively communicates information to members and the club board to ensure that information is disseminated widely throughout the organization
  • Attend quarterly partnership meetings and report updates to the board at their monthly meetings as needed
  • Responsible for overseeing regular interactions via Buck Hill Ski Racing team social channels and weekly member communications
  • Work with coaches to develop recommended schedules for each age group including U12, U14, U16 and FIS
  • Leads the ongoing direction of the team app, TeamSnap, as a tool to keep members and athletes informed
  • Directs and coordinates USSS and FIS races on site. Works with Region 1 to plan and allocate resources. Coordinates with Buck Hill departments and staff for all events
  • Foster the continued development of a high level dryland performance program.
  • Work directly with the board to set team policy
