Feature List: Resort-Inspired Luxury in Burnside
Situated in a private cul-de-sac at 4 Elizabeth Court, Burnside, this five-bedroom, three-bathroom home is a triumph of design and function, with enviable living spaces and spa-like amenities.
When the property went up for sale in 2018, artist Jane DeDear jumped at the chance to own the house.
“I used to live next door at 2 Elizabeth Court, but I always liked number four,” says Jane.
“It just has this really charming street appeal and a big, wide frontage. I really admired all the different levels and the stone and tiled roof; he had a lot of character.
With the help of Adelaide design firm Enoki, Jane immediately set about transforming the property into a dream home for her and her four teenage children.
“I asked Susanna Bilardo to come take a look and we spent six months planning and approving,” says Jane.
“Then we emptied the whole house. I built nine rooms, installed the infinity pool and remodeled everything.
After two years of renovations and remodeling, the completed home offers an effortless fusion of family living and an opulent, resort lifestyle.
“I spend a lot of time in Bali and wanted the vibe of the Legian Beach Hotel I’m staying at,” says Jane.
As part of Enoki’s design, Jane insisted on a non-white color scheme to enhance the warmth and character of the home.
“Everyone has white houses and they’re sterile and a bit clinical,” says Jane. “I just wanted it to be warm and cozy with lots of textures.”
Defined by its separate spaces on three levels, but connected by a central spiral staircase, the house possesses both a sense of unity and separation, ensuring shared living and entertaining areas in addition to private bedrooms.
“I actually like that it’s not an open plan,” Jane says. “I know everyone loves the open plan, but it’s so noisy.
The sumptuous main retreat contained on the ground floor resembles a hotel suite with its vast dressing room, open bathroom and adjoining living room.
Optimal for entertaining guests or relaxing for a relaxed evening, the formal living room is located on the first floor with its signature gas fireplace and rich wood floors offset by black detailing for a warm, contemporary feel.
This space leads to a covered and elevated outdoor area overlooking the infinity pool and outdoor area, which has a full kitchen and BBQ for entertaining.
The house is equipped with its own wellness center located on the ground floor, including a hall, sauna, indoor hot tub and private gym.
“Beneath the stairs were two small, cramped storage rooms and I thought this would make a great sauna and hot tub,” says Jane. “So I had a clear light sauna that fit less than an inch on each side and covered it entirely in cedar to look like it was custom built.”
“We lined up the cedar lobby and I found these guys from Adelaide making cedar hot tubs. They came and built this beautiful round cedar tub.
Throughout the home, large windows allow for an abundance of natural light in addition to views of sprawling greenery and a beautiful cove, enhancing the property’s sense of seclusion.
“It’s all private land and it’s green all year round, even in the height of summer,” says Jane.
Although the epitome of serenity, the property is only minutes from the CBD, public and private schools, and the Burnside Village shopping district.
“It’s a really convenient location but still very private; it’s in a cul de sac so there is no through traffic.
Jane sells her beloved home to move abroad in pursuit of her dream lifestyle in Bali.
“I got it here and now I’m getting the real deal,” she says.
Jane believes a new family will enjoy the convenience of home and all the amenities it has to offer.
“You don’t feel you have to go anywhere; you can go to the gym. you can have sauna and hot tub. You have solariums to relax in and you have a swimming pool,” says Jane.
The sale is managed by Sharyn Yelland and Grant Giordano of Giordano & Partners Luxury Real Estate.
