In Mumbai’s first major power outage since October 2020, train services were hit | Latest India News
Mumbai experienced a major power outage in the central, western and southern parts on Sunday morning which affected local rail services, the lifeline of the city. It is the first major outage in India’s financial capital since October 2020. A grid outage left much of the city without power, officials said. “Due to technical issues, there has been a power outage in many areas of the city. Our team is on the ground to resolve the issue. Power should be restored within an hour. We regret the inconvenience (sic),” the city’s civic body, the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation) tweeted around 10 a.m.
About an hour later, the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL) said “all transmission lines” had been restored. The Tata power supply reported an outage between 9:50 a.m. and 10:53 a.m. The power outages were caused by a technical error. “Due to the tripping of the MSEB 220kv transmission line on Mulund-Trombay, the power supply to most parts of Mumbai has been affected as reported by (the) Head of Power Supply Division of BEST,” the civic body said.
Between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m., disruptions to train services were reported. In a statement, Sumit Thakur, Director of Public Relations for Western Railwas, said at around 10:40 a.m.: “The disturbance occurred between Churchgate and Vile Parle stations. Overhead systems have been restored, restoration of the signaling system is underway.
At around 10:30 a.m., Central Railway public relations officer Shivaji Sutar said “trains were running in all corridors.” “Power supply momentarily interrupted on the port railway line and the main line between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) – Kalyan from 9:49 a.m. to 9:52 a.m.,” he said.
As of October 2020, the city was at a standstill due to power cuts. Adani Electricity Mumbai Limited (AEML), which supplies power to most of Maharashtra’s capital, had linked the blackouts to a major power grid outage.
