May 2022 preview: no less than 217 hotels set to debut [Infographic]

An overview of the TOPHOTELPROJECTS construction database reveals that 217 hotels comprising 38,513 new rooms are set to open in May.
Asia-Pacific and Europe are expected to see the most new hotels next month, with 73 openings planned for each of these regions.
Global hotel growth
Of the 217 hotels slated to open in May 2022, 82 properties with 15,753 rooms between them will have five-star status while another 135, with 22,760 rooms in total, will be in the four-star category.
APAC is expected to welcome 73 hotels and 14,251 rooms, Europe will welcome 73 properties with 11,460 rooms and North America will welcome 46 hotels with 8,012 new rooms. Another 12 hotels with 1,854 rooms are to open in Africa, 11 hotels with 2,520 rooms are to open in the Middle East and two hotels with 416 rooms are to open in Latin America.
The United States is the country with the most openings in May, as it is expected to welcome 39 new hotels. China will benefit from 24 openings and the United Kingdom will welcome 17 new hotels. The cities seeing the biggest boost to their hotel scene are Bangkok, New York and London, each with five hotels debuting in May.
Brands with the most openings include Hilton Hotels & Resorts and Radisson Blu Hotels & Resorts, both with seven planned launches in May.
Flagship openings in May
Major openings in May include the Scandic Spectrum in Copenhagen and the Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Residences Amman.
The 632-room Scandic Spectrum is a historic opening for Scandic. The property occupies a central location that puts guests close to the city’s Central Station and major sights, including Tivoli Gardens and City Hall.
The glass-fronted, design and sustainable property will welcome guests and residents in contemporary spaces including a floor dedicated to restaurants, bars and a terrace offering panoramic views of the city and the port.
The five-star Ritz-Carlton Hotel & Residences Amman then aims to deliver a memorable experience that fuses modern luxury with a taste of Jordanian culture.
This establishment located in the heart of the capital has 228 rooms, including 34 suites, as well as 90 residences and branded facilities including an indoor swimming pool, a fitness center, two top-of-the-range restaurants including one on the roof and a conference room of 1,000 m².
