The College of Arts, Media and Design (CAMD) at Northeastern University invites applications for open, tenured, or tenure-track positions in the following subject areas:

-Sustainability and resilience (link). In this broad theme, we are particularly interested in candidates with legal expertise in building/construction/materials practices, sustainable urban landscapes, resilient communities and engagement strategies. Food, Water, Energy Nexus (link). Within this broad theme, we are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in science communication, design for information and visualization in relation to the food-water-energy nexus, participatory justice-focused methods, energy consumption and technology in intercultural relations. contexts, and future use of architecture and preservation in design. -Health & Technology / Data (link). In this broad theme, we are particularly interested in applicants with expertise in digital health, AI-enabled health, big data health analytics and visualization, extended reality (AR, VR, MR), HCI, health technology in the built environment, serious games, and/or human-robotic interaction for health applications and wearable computing. -Extraordinary HCI and inclusive design (link). Within this broad theme, we are particularly looking for candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas: Inclusive Design, Extended Reality (XR), Serious Games, Assistive Technology, STS, Accessible Design, Critical Design, Critical Making, Design Justice, Disability Studies, Equitable Technology Design and/or Architecture. Positions will have a primary residence in one of CAMD’s six schools and departments (Architecture, Art + Design, Communication Studies, Journalism, Music and Drama). Joint appointments and/or affiliations with other Northeastern University colleges and institutes are strongly encouraged and will be considered appropriate. We have a particular interest in candidates with a house in Architecture and Design. Applicants can apply to multiple searches.

Responsibilities

Northeastern faculty members are expected to develop independent research programs that attract external funding; teach graduate and undergraduate courses; supervise students and postdoctoral fellows in their field of research; and participate in the service of the department, the university and the discipline. Applicants interested in leading high-impact research programs and committed to teaching excellence in the above broad areas are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

A PhD or terminal degree (e.g. MFA or MArch) in the nominee’s field (architecture, design, or a field relevant to the home department) as of the start date of the appointment. The College seeks to give excellent candidates from all demographic groups in society the opportunity, resources and support to establish innovative and impactful research careers. This includes candidates in the early stages of their career as well as those who are more established. For selected applicants, there may be an option of a CAMD-funded postdoctoral fellowship position lasting 1-2 years, to enable applicants to accelerate their research programs before starting on the path to permanence.
