Reading of National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan’s meeting with Secretary of Strategic Affairs Gustavo Beliz of Argentina
Today, National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Strategic Affairs Secretary and Argentine Secretary Gustavo Beliz at the White House to advance a roadmap for bilateral cooperation established at their August meeting in Buenos Areas. They focused on joint efforts to address the climate crisis, leveraging international financial institutions to promote a sustainable and equitable economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, and working together to foster innovation in l digital economy and emerging technologies. They reviewed preparations for the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26). Their respective technical teams have come together to advance discussions on promoting a dynamic and digital ecosystem supported by secure and reliable information and communication technologies and services. On human rights, the two pledged to work together at the United Nations Human Rights Council, join forces in the defense of human rights and civil liberties, and promote the social, ethnic and racial equity. They explored ways to deal with the deteriorating security situation in Haiti. Both noted the importance of ending and recovering from the pandemic, the need to increase regional vaccine production capacity and pandemic preparedness. Finally, Mr. Sullivan and Secretary Beliz discussed the ongoing talks between Argentina and the International Monetary Fund. They recognized the importance of successful negotiation and post-pandemic actions that contribute to sustainable debt and long-term inclusive growth.
