- CCTV footage of the incident has gone viral on social media.
A woman was arrested in Temple, Texas, after throwing a bowl of hot and spicy soup in the face of a restaurant worker.
Speaking to the KWTX news site, police confirm that Amanda Martinez, 31, has been charged with assault causing bodily harm.
Martinez was charged with assault causing bodily harm on Thursday and was being held on $ 5,000 bail, the MailOnline reported.
Martinez was filmed throwing soup in the face of Janelle Broland, an employee of Mexican restaurant Sol De Jalisco in Temple, on November 7.
Broland told FOX44 that the dispute started when Martinez called the restaurant to complain that the hot Menudo soup melted the plastic lid of her husband’s take-out soup order.
In a viral TikTok video, Broland described what happened next. She explained that she had apologized on several occasions and offered Martinez a refund, but said: “all [Martinez] wanted to do was scream and swear. “
She also says that Martinez insulted her and called her a “bitch”. Broland finally hung up.
An angry Martinez returned to the restaurant and another heated exchange ensued. Eventually, Broland said she asked him to leave and warned her that she would call the police. Soon after, Martinez threw the spicy, hot soup in Broland’s face.
“It was really like I had been sprayed with pepper,” Broland said. “My eyes were burning. My nose was bleeding.”
The Menudo soup described by Broland is made from red pepper.
Broland’s caption on the TikTok video included: “Please refrain from harassing or threatening this woman.”
Sharing the video on social media, the team at Restaurant Sol de Jalisco said: “Mi casa es tu casa, but let’s all adhere to the ideals of respect.”
