World’s first ‘yacht liner’ unveiled with 39 apartments on board
(CNN) – Forget the superyachts, a new residential vessel is on its way, it’s so huge it’s called a “yacht liner”.
Somnio, which means “to dream” in Latin, was designed by Winch Design and Tillberg Design of Sweden, and is to be built by Norwegian designer and shipbuilder VARD at a cost of around $ 600 million.
The gigantic ship will be equipped with 39 apartments over six floors, as well as restaurants, bars and a beach club on board.
However, the buying process is “by invitation or recommendation only” with apartment prices starting at over $ 11 million. A spokesperson for the project confirms to CNN Travel that some have already been recovered.

While the identity of the owners will be kept a secret, those making the cut will benefit from full concierge services “for needs on board and ashore”, not to mention the privilege of having the world’s largest yacht as their address.
Each of the 39 apartments will include “bespoke features” based on buyer’s preferences, but a gym, library, as well as indoor and outdoor dining spaces are likely to be provided, according to a press release. by Winch Design.
Somnio’s designers believe it will offer those investing in one of its luxury properties the same level of service as a ‘seven star’ hotel, along with the enormous benefits of owning a superyacht.
Health concerns have also been taken into consideration, particularly in light of the pandemic, and the team stress that “world-class medical care” will be available on board, while stressing that those on board will likely be required “away from pandemics and other global risks.”
“Somnio will be the only residential superyacht in the world and has been designed to exacting standards to live up to a lifetime of opportunity,” said Captain Erik Bredhe, co-founder of Somnio, in a statement.
“Endless World Route”

“Owners will share a truly unique lifestyle at sea, with a handpicked crew and an endless global itinerary of carefully selected destinations and experiences befitting a yacht of this nature.”
While Somnio must ultimately be a place of residence, designers say environmental sustainability must be a key goal, and the yacht “will help scientists and marine experts conduct research on ocean environments.”
Some of the shared onboard amenities available on board include a wine cellar and tasting room with a capacity of 10,000 bottles and a lounge at the bow of the ship.
